July Guitar League meeting in a new location!

Date: Monday, July 7, 2008

Location: Gifford Auditorium in the HB Crouse Building on the north side of the Syracuse University Quad.

Time: 7:00 pm

We will no longer be meeting at Center for Arts.  The building is being sold so we must find new quarters.

Many, many thanks to Peter Ryan for arranging with SU for us to meet in one of their buildings on July 7.  This will afford us more time to find a long term location.

The HB Crouse building (HBC) fronts directly on the north side of the Quad.  The main presentation is on the first floor in Gifford Auditorium.  Some parking is available on the campus and of course on the streets.  With the students gone for the summer, parking should not be a problem.  Find a map here: http://www.syr.edu/syracwis/imagerep/maps/NorthCampus072006.pdf

If you know of anyone who may not get this announcement, please pass it on.

July Guitar League meeting in Syracuse
Date: Monday, July 7, 2008
Location: Gifford Auditorium in the HB Crouse Building on the north side of the Syracuse University Quad.
Time: 7:00 pm

Please thank Beat Street Music in Manlius for being a Guitar League sponsor. Terry and his staff are eminently knowledgeable about guitars and have a selection of quality instruments second to none. Beat Street sponsors our main presenters.

Main Presenter:  Joanne Perry has been performing as a professional vocalist for over 20 years. Known for her versatility and engaging stage presence, she has performed with some of central New York's premier guitarists, including John Cadley, Mark Hoffmann, Loren Barrigar, and Terry Mulhauser.  In 2006, illness sidlined Joanne from performing.  During that time she pursued a life-long dream of learning to play the guitar and writing songs.  Joanne will recount her musical journey with the help of some of her very talented friends.  It will be a treat to hear her new songs and some of the standards she does so well.  Nobody can sell a Patsy Kline song like Joanne!

Rookies Breakout Session: Dick Mabbett --  Playing in church services

Minors Breakout Session:  Rick Read --  Swing/Jazz guitar

Majors Breakout Session: Majors and anyone else interested will remain with Joanne for Q&A, and more music.

If you think your guitar is hard to play, please have one of us take a look at it.  It may need adjustment.  This instrument is difficult enough as it is.  No need to have to fight with it to press the strings down.  See Loren, James, or myself anytime before, during, or after the meeting.

As always, any of you are free to find a quiet corner of the building for swapping licks and jamming. There are some small rooms downstairs at the rear of building that are available.

We are grateful to the Syracuse Center for Arts for allowing us to use the beautiful building for Guitar League meetings and supporting our concert efforts. Thanks go out to Greg Card and Peter Ruszczak for this.

One other thing: If you have a specific question or a problem you are trying to solve in your playing, Loren will be around during the breakouts and will be happy to take a look.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
