August, 2010 Guitar League Meeting Date: Monday, August 2 Location: The Vineyard Time: 7:00 pm Many thanks to the great people at the Vineyard. They are so very accommodating to us and we owe them a big vote of appreciation. Terry Vickory at Beat Street Music in Manlius is again a very welcome Guitar League sponsor in 2010. Beat Street sponsors our main presenters. Terry and his staff are eminently knowledgeable about guitars and have a selection of quality instruments second to none. Stop in to Beat Street in downtown Manlius for all your guitar needs. Main presenter: Carol Bryant was scheduled to be the main presenter on Monday; the subject was to be about guitars and singing, both with a guitar player, and accompanying yourself.
Carol is sorely afflicted with a persistent case of laryngitis and will not be able to do the presentation.
Instead we will have a "play a song with Loren" program. We have done this a couple times before and the concept was warmly received by the membership.
Here is how it will work: Mary will have a sign-up sheet at the table. Just put your name down when you come into the meeting. This sign-up is for Guitar League members. We will get through as many of you as we can in the first hour. When we run out of time, those of you who did not yet get to play may choose to stay in the main room for the second hour instead of going to a breakout session.
If we get through all the membership who want to play, then non-members are welcome to do a tune.
Minors: John Wolford will be presenting the breakout session this month. He will be talking about how to integrate harmonica playing with guitar. Including voice, this allows you to literally create a one-person band with three instruments. As most of you know, John uses the harmonica very effectively in his playing and will be discussing all the concepts that are involved. Rookies: TBA. Classical interest group: The classical guitar group will also be meeting. See Karl Sperber at the meeting. See you Monday D
